NICHOLAS COPERNICUS

INTRO-  Copernicus was one man who it can be justly said changed the universe- or at least the
human population’s perception of it.  Copernicus was sometimes honored with the name, Father
of Astronomy.  He was constantly observing and studying the stars.  It is ironic that although he
was raised by a prominent catholic bishop that he later presented to the world a new view on the
heavens- and the church was not receptive.

Childhood-history
     A. born February 19, 1473 in  Torun, Poland as Nick Koppernigks
     B. youngest of four kids
     C. at the age of 10, father died and he and his brother and two sisters were all adopted by
their uncle and wealthy Catholic bishop.
     D. Went to Craw University by his uncle to study mathematics.            
     E. Changed the Polish form of his name to the Latin version, how he is now always
known.
     F. Took some classes in astronomy, astrology, geometry, and geography.
     
II Other Jobs- what he did in life.
     a. studies law at Bologna and medicine at Padua in Italy.
     b. uncle thought that is he was to be a man of the church, he needed to learn about the
legal codes of the Popes and Councils
     c. Padua-  was most highly thought of and best known for begin a medicine man.
     d. lectured on astronomy in Rome (1500)
     e. Returned to be a bedside physician to his uncle as he aged in 1507
     f. all the while, he continually was making observations of all his different locations of the
stars and compiling his results for his book whic...
